DRAWING 101

AGES 10+

Drawing 101 introduces the basic principles of observational drawing. As we move through the course students will develop the skill of observational drawing by drawing from still lifes. We will focus on creating 3-D art using a 2-D surface. Students will gain an understanding of linear perspective and the use of value and space. Students will be introduced to new artists and materials for drawing such as graphite, charcoal, ink, and conté crayon. Other topics to be introduced include measuring and sighting, gesture, contour line positive and negative space, shape, and composition.

 

Required skills: No experience is necessary.

 

Homework: Yes, students will be given art assignments to work on for the following week. Estimated 1-2 hours a week.

 

Lecture time: Approximately the first 20-30 minutes of class will be dedicated to lecture and demonstration.
