AGES 9+
If you are looking for a class to learn some skills to be able to speak Spanish while traveling to a Spanish speaking country or just to be able to hold a simple conversation in the language that so many people that live in New Mexico speak, then Conversational Spanish will be a good fit for you. Come with us on a journey to travel to different Spanish speaking countries while learning the language.
Conversational Spanish is a very interactive class where students will be learning vocabulary, grammar, and ways to be able to understand and speak the language if you ever found yourself in a real life situation where you need to be able to use your Spanish speaking skills to at least understand what had been said or to make yourself understood.
This class requires student’s willingness to learn a new language, student's effort to practice it, and last but not least, the student's happy desire to learn the language. Remember, learning any new language requires practice.
This class will include some local field trips outside the class, and individual or group oral projects or presentations. We will also incorporate culture into our lesson plans and immerse ourselves in the Hispanic culture to be able to understand the meanings of many words and how a same word can be name different ways in different countries.
Skills required: Students need to be able to read, to write, to memorize Spanish words, and not be afraid to speak. Students need to be able to focus on the lecture (good listeners) to be able to use the skills learned to communicate and hold conversations with their peers. Even though the class is interactive, students are required to focus and to pay attention.
Homework: There will be some sort of homework, about maybe at least an hour per week or 10-15 per day to learn vocabulary, practice pronunciation, and some workbook practice.
Lecture time: 30 minutes lecture followed by 25 minutes of group conversation.
Is fall semester required for spring semester? YES
Special supplies parents provide: Either a binder, notebook or both. Possibly also a workbook to practice at home that parents are required to purchase. Will update over the summer.
