FAIRY TALES ACROSS CULTURES
& MOVEMENT GAMES

with NICOLE OSBORN

AGES 6-9

This class will be an exploration of fairy tales from around the world. We will read together stories that the children are familiar with and also introduce different versions of the same stories told from different communities and perspectives.  We will also be looking at fractured fairy tales, gender swapped fairy tales and more.  Students will be encouraged to think about what fairy tales are for and what they aim to teach us about the real world around us.

Children will listen to teachers read, discuss concepts taught in class, and participate in activities based on the day's reading.  Examples of activities are crafts, word finding games and outdoor activities that will correspond with the day's books or stories. Movement games will be a big part of this class.

The day’s reading will mostly be picture books or traditional fairy tales. If children need to do something while listening to the story, we will provide materials for them to doodle or color. There will be opportunities for students to write or tell their own stories, but writing skills are not necessary for this class.

This approach will serve as an introduction into reading comprehension, giving the children tools to help them think about what they read and relate to stories on a personal level.  We will use a playful and fun approach, while utilizing our outdoor space.
