membership

Our Odyssey Members get access to all our organization has to offering and attend our Wednesday co-op.

Basic info about the Odyssey Membership Level:

What is our Wednesday Program?

The Wednesday Program is only offered to Odyssey members.  It  is the main programming offered by our collaborative.  The goal of this program

is to offer academic classes and community to secular homeschoolers in the Albuquerque area.

The program meets for 11 weeks in the Fall and 11 weeks in Spring, 9am - 3pm at the Kiwanis Reservation area Elena Gallegos Open Space.

The first two hours of the day are optional.

Classes:

At our core, we are an academic co-op that wants to offer our children the chance to learn in a community.  For this reason, the bulk of our

classes are academic; however, we do also offer some fun, electives to break up the day.  Examples of classes include: math games, cultural studies, music appreciation, science, various science classes, Spanish, theatre, poetry, storytelling, hiking, and chess.

For a full list of our current classes, click here.

Our day is broken up into one hour class periods.  Each year, we have an enrollment period where our scheduling team releases the next school year's schedule.  Families view class descriptions and enroll by choosing a first and second choice each hour.  The scheduling coordinator creates rosters based on this information. Most times, students receive their first choice of class.   The lunch hour is at 12pm for everyone, where students can eat, relax, play games, and socialize with friends.

Each class lists a target age group, but we all understand that age doesn't always dictate a students' ability to take a class.  For that reason, students a year older or a year younger than the listed age group can always request to take a class.

Volunteering:

Families participating in the Wednesday co-op are required to volunteer at last 4 hours of the day on Wednesday. We are an all-volunteer organization and rely on our members to keep this wonderful community running smoothly.  Family members are our teachers, class assistants, substitutes, and more.  We strive to provide some free periods for volunteers throughout the day, but Wednesdays should be your family’s day at co-op.   We also require each family to have a volunteer on an Operations Team.  Click here for a brief description of Operations Teams.  Examples of teams are Community Spirit/Activities, Finance, Fundraising, Set up/Clean up, and more.

Student Population:

We strive to have a fairly even amount of kids in each age group (7-9, 10-12, 13+)  Currently, we have about 25 kids in each age group.

Our regular co-op classes are best for ages 7 and up.  If you have a child under the age of 7, we have a transitional program where younger siblings can experience some shorter, more age appropriate classes throughout the day.   These classes are offered from 10am - 3pm only, and often include some rest and free play. This program has limited availability because of the classroom size.

What other benefits do Odyssey Members enjoy?

As stated above, Odyssey members get access to our members-only Facebook groups.  This is where our members connect to offer other activities outside of our Wednesday program.  These activities include things like: book clubs, field trips, a dance, classes at members' homes, a week-long camp in the winter and more!  We also have a zoom account where members can offer virtual classes.
