FRIENDLY FEUD TRIVIA
with STEFANI WRIGHT

AGES 7-10

*kids aged 11 and 12 can also choose this class (without having to email operations team for permission) if they decide this age range is a better fit for them than the teen trivia

I am Professor TriviOsa (Stefani Wright) and I am thrilled to be returning for the third year in a row hosting the Friendly Feud Trivia Class! It will be a ton of fun and your kids will definitely be walking away having learned something each week.

Each week will be a different topic. There will always be at least 3 kids per team. Teams are different each week. Since we are the Phoenixes and our site is Harry Potter themed.... so shall be our trivia class!

There are only 4 houses... Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Ravenclaw. However, after the experience of learning over the past three years of this class, is that they are just fine choosing their own name for their houses. They are always creative and funny so that's how we will begin this year.

On each team will be The Writer, The Chosen One, and The Keeper Of Information and The Revealer. The Writer writes the answer agreed upon on the whiteboard paddle. The Chosen One gets ready to run to professor Triviosa for the hint once the spell “Accio Chosen One” is cast; Professor Triviosa whispers it in each contestants ear and they translate it to their team. The Page Turner holds the pamphlet for each round for all of their team to be able to see. The Revealer shouts the answer at the same time The Writer flips the board. Each question will be in front of them in a packet. The answer will be in 5 formats…. Multiple choice, Send to Professor trivia for a hint when the spell is cast, make an educated guess with no hint, true or false, and picture puzzles!  These jobs will most likely be rotated, but I will go with the flow of the class and see who likes what and is comfortable with which jobs. So there will be interaction with all students and everyone will get a chance to partake in every aspect of the trivia class at some point so there will not be a question of fairness amongst the students.

There will be 2 rounds of 10-12 questions each with bonus questions in the event of a tie. Each team will have 30 ish seconds to discuss and get their answer written on the board. My Harry Potter Jingle will be playing while they deliberate so it will be harder for teams to over hear other teams. When that house is called upon, that team will turn the board and vocalize the answer. If it is correct... 10 POINTS TO GRYFFINDOR!!! :) or whichever house/name it is.

I have made a stand up game board that my lovely assistant is in charge of so the teams can visually see the scores as we go.

I am trying to work in more game show aspects with sound effects and pictures this year so super excited for that!

If any parents want to come and watch, you most certainly may! You may even participate. If i see you watching, i will probably call on you for an answer or two!!! Please come watch and enjoy the excitement on their little faces!

At the end... the winning team will have won the House Cup!!! Or a little prize that I am able to purchase. I will see what what will do ebst this year.

Also at the end of the class, I will reveal the theme for next weeks class/the children will all choose one together. I am hoping to nail this one down this year and make all weeks of questions and round ahead of the semester.

I also added a review week! every 4 weeks a Review Week Round will consist of only questions we have done the prior three weeks to really see how much you pay attention in Professor TriviOsas Class!!! Muah hahahaha.

Aside from a good attitude, they do not need any other supplies for this class.

SUGGESTION FOR HELPING YOUR KIDDO WITH THE RESEARCH

IF TOPIC IS REVEALED - Please help your student just look up anything or everything about that subject before the class next week. I guess that is homework... but I feel after the 3rd week or so, most kids might WANT to look things up so they can participate more within their team. (the ages for this class are 7-10 so it will be basic knowledge about the subject. If necessary, I can find info to provide each week on the subject, but this is more aimed at teaching them to want to find information about something instead of the answer being handed to them on a handout). It gives them an opportunity to spark interest in doing research on a subject because they are not just learning it to learn some fun facts, they are learning it to help their team win next week! It is a different form of motivation that they might not have had before, so cultivate it and allow them to be hungry for this knowledge in a positive, healthy way.

Please remember, when I came up for the idea of this class, I planned to be a gameshow host character of sorts and that is what I am sticking with! When I go out, I try to go all out... that is just a part of who I am!  Professor TriviOsa with the wand, the Harry Potter robe (i think i found it lol), my harry potter themed music while teams are deliberating, the spell casting, the game show host presentation, sound effects, and of course the dramatics... will all be present for the whole hour because why not!!! I hope to make this class a fun one for the kiddos...and educational!!!! :)

I look forward to being Professor TriviOsa and having some fun watching your witches and wizards compete for the house cup!

Required Skills: This is a list of some requirements, but also a list of what will be worked on and improved in this class. I understand a lot of kids are getting used to these concepts, or have not been introduced to them in this kind of format before, I understand that completely! This is more of a ‘what to expect to be used and practiced in class’.

-Communication skills, in general, but also in high stress/a limited time frame.

-Group cooperation towards a common goal.

-Winning and losing with good sportsmanship.

-Basic knowledge in various subjects that are either educationally or culturally relevant (with some fun random stuff in there too!)

-Option to learn generic research/planning/study skills.

-Learning and practicing following specific rules and formats

-Opportunity to compete on an intellectual playing field with their peers

I use every minute of every class. This class has some movement involved, but they are not required to sit still, they just have to stay with their group and deliberate when the time comes.

Homework: No strict ‘has to be done and due’ homework will be given.  However, the format I create each week allows the children that have not studied the subject, to have as much fun as their peer who might have done some research. So it is in no way frowned upon if you didn't do research, but it is more of an opportunity to practice research about a different topic each week. So bottom line, it is encouraged, but not necessary to do research on topics each week.

Supplies needed:  One dry erase marker

Is fall semester required for spring semester? No
